Media Final Epic Film Analysis

In Media Communications, we finished the movie The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and we started watching The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers. The director of the film is Peter Jackson. Some of the main characters in the movies would be Frodo, Aragon, Legolas, Sam, and Gandalf the Grey. By watching these two movies I’ve learned a lot about film analysis and epic characteristics. Some of the epic element is the different settings the movie takes place, the elves, and the hobbits. By being in this class I’m aware of other epic films. The reason its important to learn about filming and epics is because it makes you think how much work the directors put into the making of movies.
Throughout the movies there has been supernatural elements. Supernatural elements are the use of some type of magic. One example would be the sword that Bilbo gave to Frodo, when he was in Rivendale Land of the Elves. In Rivendale, if elves stick together they won’t age. Bilbo explained to Frodo that the sword glows blue when Orcs are coming. Bilbo also gave Frodo an Elvin armor, which protects Frodo from dying. Another one would be the bread that the elves gave to The Fellowship. The elves explained that with one bit of the bread you would get full. The most important supernatural force would be the power of the Ring. The power that it has is made to do evil. It draws people into its power. The only person that can care it is someone that is pure.
In The Two Towers, Merry and Pippin get taken by the Orcs, which were once elves. Merry and Pippin try to escape into the forest where they are taken by ents. Ents are trees that can talk to each other. After the Ents trust Merry and Pippin they start to care for them. When Aragon, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf the White go to Rowan, they noticed that Sauron the White possesses the King. Gandalf the White then uses his powers to dispossess King Theodin. We also found out that Aragon is really 87 years old because he was living with the Elves at the time.
Throughout both of the movies we see a couple of people guiding Frodo into the right direction to destroy the ring. One of the guides that have been there for Frodo since the beginning would be Sam. The first thing the Gandalf the Grey told Sam when he wanted to come on the adventure was to protect Frodo. Sam so far has been very loyal to Frodo. He would do anything to protect Frodo. One example would be that Sam went into the river knowing that he can’t swim just to be with Frodo. In a way, Sam is like a bodyguard. Another guide would be Gandalf the Grey of course. He helps Frodo figure out where to take the ring in order to destroy it. Also in a way Gandalf gives faith in Frodo that he won’t be taken by the ring. Aragon is also considered to be a guide. Aragon is part of the Fellowship to destroy the ring. He helps Frodo stay on the right path. Aragon would do anything to help Frodo get where he needs to go. He would go till the end of the world to save Frodo.
There are villains in movies, which follow with heroes. Some are born heroes and others become heroes by seeing the difference between good and evil. In The Fellowship of the Ring, one of the heroes would be Boromir. His task was to get the ring and take it back to his land. Throughout the movie he was finding a way to be alone with Frodo. Frodo and Boromir were in the woods when the ring started to call Boromir. So he started coming after Frodo, so then Frodo put the ring on to hide form Boromir. Boromir didn’t know what to because he couldn’t find Frodo. He finally realized what he had done. Then the Orcs started coming when Merry and Pippin found Boromir. Boromir showed great valor when he was protecting Merry and Pippin from the Orcs. He took four arrows to his body and still fought till the end to keep Merry and Pippin safe.
In The Two Towers Gimli’s courage was tested. In Castle Keep, Aragon, Gimli, Legolas, the elves and Rowan fighters were trying to fight off all the Orcs that were coming. There was about thousands of them trying to get inside the castle. Gimli and Aragon snuck around to the corner by the front doors and Gimli told Aragon that he should toss him into the Orcs to stop them from coming inside the Castle. Also Merry and Pippin should courage by standing up to the Ents and telling them to help them in destroying the Orcs. In this movie Merry and Pippin started to come more adult like than being ignorant. They started to realize that this isn’t a joke it’s serious.
Throughout our entire life we are going to have to make decisions that could change the rest of our lives. Some might not have a big effect in our life but it could change the way we see life. In a way both of these movies make you realize that life isn’t always nice and perfect. People face many different challenges. These movies have showed us what dedication and patience can do for you.

Cemetery Photos

This picture was taken at the student parking lot. This is a long shot showing how alone this girl feels in the world. The tree is providing stability for the girl in her life.
This is my favorite picture. The type of shot it is would be a medium long shot. It was taken in black and white. It gives this old kind of scary feeling you get when you go into a cemetery.
This shot would be a framing shot because the bars are framing the gate at the cemetery. It's also a long shot because of the cemetery tomb stones in the background. The gate would also be a close-up at the same time. Its being enhanced by the tomb stones in the back.
This picture was taken when I was up on a tree. This is a high angle shot. It showing how weak Emma, Vincent, and Mrs. Collins is. At the same time it's a framing shot. The tree limbs are making into a framing shot.
This picture is a long shot of somebody walking in the distance. At the same time it would be a medium shot because of the tree. The tree enhances the person that is walking in the background.

The Red Balloon

We just finished watching The Red Balloon in media class. We are learning about the different types of camera shots. In one of the scenes, the type of shot that was being used was long shot and high shot. It was showing how the little boy had no chance of getting away from the other children that were after his balloon. It made the little boy look weak. Another shot was when the boy went into the bakery and told his balloon to stay there and not to go anywhere. That type of shot was a medium shot. The scene that caught my eye the most would be the over the shoulder shot. It showed the boy trying to get his balloon back from the other kids. It showed the point of view and what the little boy is seeing from his perspective. The music changed through-out the story. In one scene the boy ran into a girl who also had a balloon and the music was cute. It showed the relationship between the girl and boy. Another type of music was when the balloon was all alone outside of the church, the music was depressed and a little bit sad. From what I got to watch from the movie it showed me that everybody needs a support system. The movie was very symbolic by showing that the balloons need each other too not just humans.

Article-Social Media Suicide

On September 21, 2010, Tyler Clementi killed himself because of social media Twitter. It's crazy to think that people you think are your friends can just turn their back on you. I guess you honestly can't really trust anybody in this world except yourself. Just because Tyler was gay doesn't mean that he is different from the rest of us. It doesn't make him a freak. Everybody needs love doesn't matter who it comes from. Lauren Felton believes if Tyler had been in bed with a woman he would still probably be alive. Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei violated Tyler's privacy in many ways. My thoughts on this is treat others the way you want to be treated. How would Dharun and Molly like if this was done to them. I believe they would be embarrassed and pissed off. It's just hard to believe people are doing these types of things to each other. Like Mrs.Collin's said "It's just wrong!"

The Adoration of Jenna Fox

I'm more than half way done with my book, and this is what caught my eye. Jenna Fox is now 17 years old and had been in a coma for a year and a half. She can't remember anything, so her parents gave her home videos that she could watch. Jenna is going to have to face many obstacles in her life from now on. One of those would be not being afraid to be different and unique. This reminds me of when I was in second grade and I was the only one that had glasses in my class. I felt that people were going to make fun of me because I started to wear glasses. The novel has very vivid writing. I can always put the words into images. There are very many similes in this book that Jenna compares herself to. In one part of the book Mr. Bender, which is Jenna's neighbor talks about the environment and I can pretty much picture everything in my mind. At the same time this book raises questions for me, like where is does Jenna's mother go when she leaves the house? Another would be what exactly does Jenna's father do in Boston? There is one more thing that I would like to tell you about this book. Even though Jenna has been in a coma and can't remember anything, she knows that her grandmother, Lily, doesn't like her very much. At times Lily would just ignore Jenna and treat as if she is someone else and not her granddaughter. Is she?

Round Table 2

The thing I found most interesting was there are about 31 billion searches on Google each day. Its crazy to think that many people go on Google every day. Another thing would be if MySpace was a country it would be the fifth largest in the world. I use to have MySpace for a couple of years, but I deleted it because my friends told me about Facebook. They said that it was better and safer than MySpace. At this rate MySpace could be blown out of the park by Facebook. Almost everybody I know is using Facebook more than MySpace. More and more parents are starting to get Facebook because some parents want to see what their kids are writing or talking about. More young kids are starting to get Facebook. The youngest kid I know is about 10 years old. It's crazy to think that elementary kids are starting to use Facebook. It took four years for the internet to reach 50 billion audiences. That is ridiculous! Jordon talked about how the first text message was sent December of 1992. Us teenagers text more than we actually talk on the phone or face to face. When texting we shorten the words and don't use full sentences. I feel that if this keeps up our  grammar and vocabulary will dwindle down.

Blog About Discussion

This morning we had our first class discussion. It was interesting, but in a good way. Vincent talked about how his dad and him built a chicken coop this weekend. I thought that was pretty cool. Mitch talked said if you cut off a chicken's head it still jumps and runs around! That is so weird and at the same time some what really cool.

1st Week of School

What can I say about my 1st week of school? I know, it went by super slow in my eyes. I met a couple of new people. The ones that I connected with the most would be Jordon Kampfer and Alyssa Crump. They are easy going and a lot of fun to be around with. Everybody at school has been really nice to me and helpful too. Hopefully the rest of this school year goes by fast, is calm and not very stressful.

Digital Text

There were about three things I thought were cool in this video. One of them was that there are so many different types of shortcuts. There was a quote that I liked and it was the one that said "We are the web." Lastly, the last part of the video that stated rethink love, family, etc.

Did You Know?

There were three things that stuck out to me in this video. The first one was that about 25% of India's population with the highest IQ's is greater than the total population in the United States. Also the U.S. Department of Labor thinks that today's learner will have 10-14 jobs by the age of 38. The last thing would be that China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world!

Mondays

Today is the first Monday of the school year! I'm not excited at all. Mondays makes the day go by super slow in my eyes. I'm always tired on Mondays even though I get to bed early it still seems like I never get enough sleep. Weird right? My sister wakes up and says "Yay! Its Monday, time for school!" When I wake up, it takes my mother 30 minutes just to get my out of bed. I absolutely didn't do anyting over the weekend, except babysit my little baby cousin. His name is Marco and he is about a year old. In my eyes, he is the cuties baby in the world! I took him to the pool for a little while then after that we went into Lawrence to go eat. My mother and I took my little baby cousin, Marco, to eat at Applebees. On Sunday I just laid around just like a bum would do.
